Six months in...

I've been on the job for six months now and I think feel like recording my day as I push a 16 tonne Volvo, Merc or Scania bus around the suburbs of Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, Tarniet etc,

My week is pretty much predetermined because I am on a fixed roster of 60+ weeks. This week is run 42 I believe and it means that I work mostly afternoon shifts, with Tuesday and Sunday off. Last week I worked six days because I was called in for a shift, which is a good thing financially, but it does mean a shortened break that week. Rules are such that I'm not permitted to work more than six days in a row.

Yesterday was Sunday, which is double time for me. It was also the day that the International Bike race whizzed through town in the morning, but I wasn't effected by that excitement. The day also marked the start of Victoria's Daylight Saving for the summer, and all the clocks were put forward one hour. Needless to say, I had it covered and I wasn't late for work.

Dee was up bright and early as well because she wanted to finish cleaning up the outside table, using a kit she had purchased the other day. I had to repair the table first, because Dee had managed to pull a leg off it the day earlier. It was a straight forward repair job. While I had the tools out, I also drilled a new hole in the gate post to allow for the movement of the fence. It was only built about six months ago, but the movement since then had made it impossible to lock the gate without using a lever to lift the gate up, or open it once it was locked. Now it isn't an issue.

I had a good run on the bus, with a couple of trips up to Manor Lakes, with time to grab a bite (breakfast) from Maccas. I used my McCafe travel mug I had from when I worked in the city and it has a nice hook that I used while I was driving.

In the afternoon, I got a Merc (94) and I had trouble starting it, but once it was going, it kept going until stumps  at 9pm. I had a nice chat with a passenger who's wife was in hospital for breast reconstruction following breast cancer. He was visiting from Cairns. I also picked up a heap of people from the Werribee Zoo which was good because not many people know you can take a bus to the Zoo.

Kirby, using her shiny new "Ps" and my old 96 Magna, picked me up after she had been to church and had caught up with her shiny new Eddie boyfriend.

Casey and Trent were home when we got in, but Casey was packing up to go over to Trent's as he had just returned from Fiji on a holiday.

I made myself a chicken roll, grabbed a cold beer (hobby made Grolsch)  and settled down for the evening.
