Highs and Lows- Take 2
This is take 2, because I poured my heart out on the latest blog entry last night, only to have it disappear on me when I went to Spellcheck it. Next time I will Save as Draft before Spellchecking. I think it was something to do with the Pop-up Blockers I use. - -sigh --
The past 4 days have been emotional up and down for me, hence the blog title. Friday at work was a bit flat, as I started to do more cooler (a la Cold) calls than I really like. more on that later. In the evening, I had the house to myself, so I settled down to watch a couple of Showtime classics on Foxtel. First up was the movie "The Doors" about the band from the 60's / 70's. I class myself as a child of the 60's and I always wondered why they weren't at Woodstock. Now I know. Jim Morrison had been arrested for lewd behavior while on stage, and the Woodstock promoters cancelled. I think The Doors would have been a perfect fit for Woodstock. Oh Well, that's a story for another time dimension. I also discovered that Jim sang baritone, like me, so I will be the guy singing "riders of the storm" at the next karoke session.
The other 'classic' I watched was Quadrophenia. Written and sung by The Who as an Album in the early 70's, and turned into a movie in 1979, the year Nathaniel was born. For me, it captured the way I felt growing up in Christchurch, and later Patea. I liked The Who, so did the main character Jimmy, a bloke with 4 personalities. I rode a Lambretta (it was Dad's but I learned to ride it when I was 14 and got my first traffic offence the day I received my provisional license at 15 and 2 days. In the Movie, Jim's Lambretta got smashed up [killed] by a Postal van. I lusted after girls who were too good for me, or so I thought. James managed to briefly catch his dream girl. All in all a good movie with a kick arse sound track.
On Saturday, Kirby came to stay, and after I had devoted two hours to my new weed eradication program, I cleaned up a bit and went grocery shopping. The afternoon was a time to relax, and I began to re-read a Robert Heinlein collection called The Green Hills of Earth. Written over 50 years ago, I still enjoy his style of putting ordinary people into extraordinary environments, and manage to tell their ordinary story with a trueness of character.
That night Nathaniel bought Indian takeaway, and convinced me I was still not ready to eat Beef Vindaloo. The chicken (Lemon Butter) and Rogan Josh was very nice though.
On Sunday, I had hoped to buy a new Printer/Copier, but my funds were too low, so that desire has been deferred. After Kirby was picked up by Dee I lolled around the place felling sorry for myself, which is never good for the soul.
Back to work yesterday and I spent a terrible time making Cold Freezing calls. Yuk. People are rude when there is no need, but that is their loss. I convinced my boss I was ready to go it alone, so today is my first real face to face sales call. Wish me luck.
