Chosing a time for a holiday is hard

I've never really worked in a job that is a regimented as the bus service. As a result, I've been told to reserve my holiday period for the coming year by tomorrow or I will be told when I can have my holidays. The thought of losing my free will to decide when I can or can't have a holiday has spurred me into action.

After printing out a full year calendar from my Google Calendar, which is something I could only do once I'd enabled a Lab add-in for the calendar I might add, I broke out a trusty red pencil to mark up the calendar. But before I could do that I had to work out when the Public holidays were in 2011 in Victoria, and what rosters I could be on to ensure that I would be rostered on to work those days, because working on a Public holiday means Double & one half Pay and I could get a 24 hour pay/shift. Weird eh!

To the calendar, I marked up the Public Holidays and cross checked them with my roster. It looks like I'm set to work most of them, so my holidays can't be on those days. Easter will be tricky because it includes ANZAC day holiday as well.

Dee is off to NZ in March, so I think I'll take a chunk of time then so I can be free for the girls. March is nice weather as well

The school holidays were factored in so I can work those weeks as they are easy runs with no school kids to bug me.

There is a long time between drinks across July Aug & Sept so I will try for a week long break in there too

I have three week long RDOs in Feb, June and Nov so I should be up to six weeks off over the coming 52 weeks. Not too shabby Eh?

The Month in Review...just where do these days go?

Since May, my life has been 'on the go'. After the last FP visit, we had another person visit us, with the the same story, but she was much nicer about our woeful financial position, so Dee and I heard her out. For many many years, I have had a little statement rolling around in my head. I can't recall where I heard it, but I know it was not an original idea of my own. It goes something like this...
