Catching up
The Australian Open has finished, and while 100's and 1000's of people spend the past two weeks glued to the drama of the Open, I spent it dealing with on constant onslaught on life as I know it...and I'm tired.
I mentioned that my boss took me and other people from his management team to the first night of the Open. It was fun, we had a nice meal at a Southbank restaurant, then took a water taxi to the Open. We saw a couple of famous tennis players, but I had to leave early (11pm ish) to get my car out of the car park before it closed. Unfortunately, it closed at 10pm, so I learnt a lesson there. Rather then shell out $85 to get a guard out to open up, I took a train home, so I didn't get to bed until 1:30am.
The next few days were busy at work as I've been recruiting for new staff to replace departing staff. I also had to let someone go as they were not right for the role, or the role was not right for them...either way, it was not going to work out good for either of us. I hosted a farewell lunch for a long serving staffer and also had the honour of making a farewell speech on his behalf in front of a large group of people who came to say goodbye.
My group moved into our new offices and while it was good to be there, we still had lots to do and as we had not found anyone to work for us yet, no-one to do it.
By the weekend I was ready for some "me" time so I drove across country to pick up Kirby from Bairnsdale, where she had just completed 12 days in the bush with "Outward Bound" Luckily she had just had her first shower in 12 days just before they dropped her off! It was great to have her back safe and sound.
It was a round trip of 640kms so I just relaxed for the rest of the weekend
Work was hectic the next week, (short staffed and all) , but I managed to get up to Sydney and show my face around the office.
Dee had bought a cat cage to protect Bear from the bully cats and on Saturday, I screwed it all together. Lets hope he doesn't get beaten up anymore
On Sunday ,between rests, I put through 6 or 7 loads of laundry as it was 28 degree and balmy weather. Today is a holiday (Australia Day), I guess we will have to fold, iron and put it all away somewhere.
