Winter is upon us

Hi there. June flew past me while we continued to sort out the mess that used to be our house. With only the weekends to really get 'stuck in' to cleaning it up and sorting through all our hoarded positions, our progress is very slow. Most weekends shrink down to about a day when you take out the opportunities to watch decent rugby on Fox Sport.

The Super-12 final, with the Crusaders destroying the 'tahs, was a great day, but the victory was bitter-sweet because my group of work mates and friends have no idea how great the victory was. Needless to say, my mum did, and she sent me the bits from the local Christchurch paper, showing the team celebrating their win. The only joy I get out of the win, apart from the obvious joy of the team I support winning, is when I go up to Sydney, the home of the losing team, and gloat among my staff up there. A small and petty thing, but it's all I can do. Victorians just don't seem to get it.

Kirby is playing soccer each Saturday morning and I've become a soccer dad, walking up and down the line shouting words of encouragement, as if I've played soccer at the highest level. Each week I make a new friend amongst the dads. This weekend it was Olivia's dad, otherwise known as Doc Ian. I introduced myself as Kirby's dad, so I was really in the grove....forgot my own name. Kirby has a lovely vision of the game and gets stuck in when she needs to, trapping and passing the ball with calm manner that has resulted in several goals. The Team as a whole is about 2nd or 3rd in their grade and they hold their own against larger and tougher teams.

Gizmo the Puppy is still centre-stage in the household, as he continues to grow into a dog. His enthusiastic welcomes and greetings lift all of us when we come home to the house he has spent the day trashing. Dog obedience school starts Real Soon Now.

My work is getting really busy now, as I move closer to the day we combine two offices of 80 and 90 into a office of 170. I will be going to Sydney each week for meetings and planning for the actual move. Being the Technology guy means that a lot of the stuff that plugs into to anything else is regarded as my responsibility. I've also lost or I'm losing another key staff member so I'm replacing staff at the same time.

Dee is struggling on with her job, and finding some joy in holding Tupperware parties to add to her Tupperware collection. She is recovered from her operation so now I guess a diet for both of us is highly likely to occur in the next week or so. She is already walking the dog, so that's a start.

I've managed to return to the garage and rediscovered my woodworking tools. Over the past two weekends I have assembled a set of plain pine shelves. I value added to them by rubbing them down with beeswax and they have come up really well... and they smell nice.

Dee and I are also planning for a big '50 years old' party for me in Jan, so if you are planning to be in Victoria in late Jan '06, I'm planning to have a large, loud party hosted at the Mambourin Gardens. More news on this as it comes to hand.

I bought a digital camera last week, so I will try to intersperse these notes with home photos in the near future.

It's Sunday morning now and I gotta drop of some Tupperware with Dee now, and then Kirby has a movie date with a boy!! (O M G) and we need to drop her off at the theatre.

Rock on folks
