Turmoil, Confusion, Joy...bloody emotions = My Week
My life keeps getting more interesting. I spent last weekend down in Geelong, with Dee and the girls.
Dee has embarked on a side venture, pushing plastic kitchenware via the party method. All good fun because she has had a large collection of this type of product for as long as I've known her and it was only logical that she became a disciple at some stage.
Last Sunday, she had arranged for one of her long-time uni buddies to host a party, and we all went over to the friend's place, as we had been invited to stay for a BBQ afterwards. Sunday was a stinky hot day. Being a social event, on a Sunday, we had planned our week due to my need to fly up to Sydney the next day. All good.
The party was a quiet affair, with Dee having a couple of sales, which is good as she gets started in the biz, and while that was going on, I made small talk with the host's hubby, who also works in Technology. His views are firmly fixed as to what is good and bad in these areas, due to his position within a major learning institute, whereas my views(opinions?) are heavily influenced by what business people need (to quote a famous saying, 'no-one gets fired for buying IBM') [hmmm. does this make me a bad person? ---nope!!]. This meant that our conversation took on a style of a knowledgeable atheist (me)arguing with a passionate religious person (he)...ie no-one will change their mind, and neither particularly cared about that, so it was fun. I had the advantage because I was sober as well.
After a burst of song singing via PS2' Singing Star (I lost to the kids) and a quickly cooked tea on BBQ, we sat around the table chatting. As the last of the home-made Baileys was drained from the glasses, I looked up to see our host's hubby soundly asleep in his dining room chair. A good sign to leave don't you think? Lesson here: Don't Drink While your wife hosts a T*ware party, unless you need an early night....maybe.
Later that night Mum rang and we caught up.
Monday and I was up early again and off to Sydney. I was exciting as I hadn't been to Sydney for a long time and it was an important part of my current job. The airlines are making it easier to fly these days, front up to the counter with photo id, get a shopping docket ticket, fly.
During the day, my thoughts were with Kirbster, as she had her birth mark removed from her shoulder. It was becoming hard for her to be comfortable among her peers, and it was her decision to have a small scar rather than a big brown hairy mole. We supported her with that decision. Dee told me she was very brave, and Kirby now has 12 stitches on the way to becoming a small scar.
I met my Sydney team and toured the two offices I am responible for. One was messy, and the other was clean and tidy. The staff are good and caring. I enjoyed my time there. I took them to lunch.
Tuesday was filled with work, still in Sydney, and the flight home. I had to buy a little stuff for the girls (what did you bring me?) so Kirby got the Lion's share in the form of a Lemony Snickett book, Dee got a cute little notepad, and Case got a Sticker (more on that later). For Nathaniel, I grabbed a sample of the "Krispy Kreme" donuts. Reason being that there ain't no Krispy Kreme in Melbourne yet, as that American franchise was only just opening up in Sydney. We decided that Donut King's tasted better :)
Wednesday was Aussie Day, a holiday. I drove to Geelong, and witnesses the biggest storm of the century. Geelong had 100mm of rain in 4 hours. Dee's house leaked and everything was soaked. Casey wasn't there so I left her sticker for her when she returned from visiting friends.
Thursday was back to work and trying to fit 5 days work into 2. It just don't go. I did catch up with my boss to clear up a few things and ask how I was going. I said I would like to stay on if possible. There was a good response, but no commitment. Fingers crossed. I rang the girls that night, to find Casey calling herself "Sticker Girl" and acting semi-disgusted that dad only brought her a sticker! In my defence, it was a great sticker! I love her.
Nat later informed me that the sticker in question "Boys are Dumb. Throw rocks at them" was controversial and had caused publicity on the radio because in incited violence...as if. I've still got a scar on my forehead where my sister threw a rock at me, encased in mud as a disguise, when I was only 6 or 7. I know I was dumb back then, and a boy to boot!! Based on this, the sticker is 40 years out of date. Thanks Deb!
Friday was busy. I finally paid of my bill at the mechanic, so I owed nothing on the car. I arrived at work late (due to paying bills) and went straight into meetings. I spent all day in meetings, finishing off the day by advising a partner on what PC to buy from home. That evening I got off the train to discover my car (the one I just paid off) was missing, stolen. In a calm fashion, I rang the police, called Nathaniel to come pick me up, rang the insurance company, and was very well treated, considering I had only made two premium payments, and then I was pleasantly surprised to find I was entitled to a hire car for 21 days. It doesn't bring the car back, but it took a bit of the sting out of it. I went to bed.
What a week.
Reading this week:: Have Spacesuit - Will Travel. by Robt A Heinlein. One of his Juvenile collection. A great yarn about a boy from the country meeting aliens and saving the world. An easy read so maybe this is the one to start Kirby on.
Listening this week:: compilation of easy listening tunes, and Good Charlotte thanks to Casey.
Exercise:: nil, and I hate myself for it...unless you count walking a lot.
